Hong Kong China Border

I wouldn’t normally regale my trip across Hong Kong and through the Shenzhen border, but when preparing for this small trip, I didn’t find any info on the route to Shenzhen Xi Train Station.

I stop by the travel agent in Hong Kong to finalise the next segment of my journey, where I’m handed my train ticket from Shenzhen to Huangshan. Here Kelvin warns me that the train leaves from the West Station in Shenzhen, which is much further from the border than the main station – basically it is in the middle of nowhere. » Read more: Hong Kong to Shenzhen

trying to embed a movie from this server…

Italian Soccer Training Program

Next, I have uploaded a video to the media manager on WordPress (I had to use the Add from Server plugin) as php.ini has a 2MB upload limit and then the media manager had a problem crunching a smaller video, insisting the .flv wasn’t a secure upload. wtf. Anyway, here is the added video, let’s see how it is displayed.. It’s a bit buggy, tries to open as a overlay, but doesn’t quite work. Maybe there is a conflict with some other code.

I then added the Vipers Video Quicktag plugin so the video would be displayed inline..

Flickr Highslide Photo Album

November 2nd, 2009

I found this list of WordPress Flickr plugins on Skyje.com (which is a great WP plugin resource) which led me to a new Flickr Gallery called Flickr + Highslide, from Pim Linders which I thought I’d give a run for it’s money, seeing as it’s free ;)

The different Gallery options look good. But on initial set-up I can see the problem is you can not set to display more than one album. Also strange that it pushes the gallery to the top of the post.

Here goes with a Gallery of my personal ‘favourites’ from Flickr … [flickr_highslide]

Estancia El Silencio

Albergue y Estancia ‘El Silencio’, Flores-Durazno, Uruguay

My first view of El Silencio Estancia.
Picture postcard. By Yabbox

As I travelled further south along the coast of Brazil my desire to escape further from the other backpackers grew within me and making my next move into Uruguay seemed like the best option. Other people I had met in Ilha Grande and Curitiba would be travelling west to experience the awesome pull of Iquazu Waterfalls and apart from acting like sheep, this would also take me further away from Uruguay.

I found this typical working farm near Durazno, which geographically was ideal as it’s just a couple of hours bus journey from Montevideo and on the way to Tacuarembo should I join up with the others later at the Estancia there. » Read more: Estancia El Silencio

Itaimbezinho Canyon

Feliz Anniversario Sam! What a long day of hiking and impressive canyons they are too. Tarsisio collected me early this morning and we went on his motorbike around 30kms out of town to the National Park of Itaimbezinho Canyon. We walked along the river bed, crossing the river around 30 times as it snaked along the valley floor with steep cliffs either side. » Read more: Praia Grande

Dawn Fishing in Torres

If I thought Torres was small, Praia Grande really is a village and no wonder I bought a bus ticket from Curitiba to Praia Grande (Sao Paolo). There are a few mercados and a bar or two. Little else. It wasn’t easy to find the hostel but it was very homely once I got there. Turn right at the church and walk straight for about two blocks, then turn right (north) for about five blocks and you should see Mercado Camila, the hostel is just twenty metres further north. There was no one at home, but the front door was open and I very quickly met ‘the guide’ as the family live in the house next door. » Read more: Praia Grande Arrival

Culmstock Old Railway

Old Railway bridge on the Culm

Picture postcard of the old Railway line as it crosses the River Culm taken on a bright day after the winter snow. I took this photo in February 2009 near Silver street – just down river of the Culm Valley Inn, Culmstock, Devon. With weather like this I was looking forward to my trip to South America and the Rio Carnival just a few weeks later!!
This is a lovely part of Devon, not far from the Somerset border and the Blackdown Hills, which form a beautiful and pretty much isolated landscape. There are steep ridges, valleys and farmland which all help to create a stunning landscape and lovely country walks. A mile away from the village of Culmstock is the Culmstock Beacon, with more impressive views over the Blackdown Hills.

Wulingshan

October 5th, 2007

Phil and Lisa organised a car, so we could make an overnight trip to Wulingshan Mountain on the Hebei Beijing border, around 150 kms from Beijing and close to Jingshanling and Simatai Great Wall. I was just stoked to be driving again and it mattered little where we went, but the area was beautiful and considering it was during National Holidays, the area was not as crowded as it could’ve been. The drive over the mountain pass (presumably to the top of Wulingshan) on a very narrow road with a sheer drop one both sides was most impressive and a perfect finale to the day, even if officially we were lost at the time, I’m so glad we were, the pass was spectacular and we had some fun with the co-driving navigation! On the second day went for a speedboat ride on the reservoir and then hiked along the waterfalls close to Yaoqiaoyu Reservoir and enjoyed the great sunny weather on an autumn day, while it was raining hard back in Beijing! We found the Jingcheng Gaosu on the way back so we didn’t even have to put up with the shit traffic on Jingshun Lu, making it a much more accessible place from Beijing. Here are some photos …
